Diese Frage haben sich bestimmt schon einige gestellt:
Warum ich als Maedel alleine ins Outback will bzw. dort war?

Das ist ganz einfach... Seht euch doch Australien auf der Landkarte an und dann seht ihr, dass Australien nicht nur aus Kueste besteht - sondern auch aus dem Inland, dem Outback. Ausserdem trifft man hier nicht so viele Deutsche und das ist fuer mein English ziemlich gut - so wird es besser und besser.

Ich hab schon ganz viele Traveller getroffen, die davon berichteten Australien gesehen zu haben. Sie schwaermen dann von den Straenden, Sydney und den den anderen Staedten. Vom Meer und den Inseln. Und wenn man sie dann nach dem Outback fragt, bekommt man die Antwort: Nee, da war ich nicht. Was soll ich denn da? Man koennte doch nette Leute dort treffen, oder etwas schoenes sehen. Diese Leute haben - meiner Meinung nach - Australien noch nicht wirklich gesehen.

Genau aus diesem Gruenden will ich ich ins Outback:
Die Menschen haben noch Zeit fuer einen Plasch und hoeren die wirklich zu. Sie antworten dir sogar. Hier sind nicht so viele auslaendische Touristen - meist reisen die Australier selbst durch die Gegend. Oder man trifft Einheimische, die auch ein Bier im Pub trinken. Sie reden mit einem und beziehen dich ins Gespraech mit ein - anders als in Deutschland. Ich verbessere mein English, weil ich mit Deutsch nicht mehr weiterkomme. Ich hab schon viele nette Leute getroffen und hab schon mehr als einmal mein Bier nicht selbst bezahlt. Ausserdem gibt es hier ganz viel zu sehen - das "echte" Australien halt eben. Natuerlich ist die Kueste auch echt, aber Australien ist nicht nur Kueste. Ausserdem finde ich die Landschaft schoen, hier sieht man mehr als nur Strand. Alleine die Unterschiede zwischen Tablelands und Savannah Gulf sind toll.

Why I - the german girl - wanna go to the Outback?

That's easy. Grap a map of Australia and look at it. You will see the following: Australia is not only coast and beaches. It is also inland - the outback. That one reason I wanna go there. And my english improves so much faster - I can not speak German because there are no Germans here and nobody will understand me. So I have to speak English.

I met a lot of travellers and they told about Sydney, the nice and beautiful beaches. About the ocean and the other cities. And I asked them for the Outback. You will get a answer like No, what can I see there? There is nothing. I don't wanna go there. Perhaps you will meet nice people, get a good job or see something really beautiful. But these people didn't see Australia in my opinion.

My reasons to go to the Outback:
The people in the Outback have time to talk to you. They want to know more about you and they not ask you because it is friendly. They really want to know. You won't find many travellers from overseas - just australian travellers you will meet. Or you will meet some locals at the pub. They talk to you and they involve you into the conversation - it's not like in Germany. I improve my English, because I can not talk in German. Of course I can, but nobody understand me. :-) I met so many nice people and more than once I didn't pay my beer. You can see a lot here - the real Australia. Of course the coast is real to but Australia is not only coast. The landscape is really nice and beautiful, here you will see more than beaches. See the difference between the Tablelands and the Savannah Gulf.

Jetzt fragt ihr euch bestimmt, fuer was die Zahl da steht. Also ich hab heute die 1800 km voll gemacht - das ist doch schon was, oder?

Heute bin ich in Charters Towers angekommen. Gleich werde ich mal einkaufen gehen (ja, auch das muss mal sein) und dann such ich mir einen Campingplatz fuer die Nacht - zumindest mal fuer heute. Wenn es mir nicht gefaellt, dann kann ich ja immer noch wechseln, denn die haben hier im Ort 4 Campingplaetze.

@ all: Vielen Dank fuer die ganzen Mails - ich hab ja eine wahre Flut an Mails bekommen.

Today I drove over the 1800 km. I find that is a good thing and I will go on. :-)

Today I arrived in Charters Towers. I will do some shopping now and then I will have a look for a campground for my first night here. If it's bad, I can change it - they have about 4 campgrounds here and a road house.

Nach 2 Tagen in der Cobbold Gorge bin ich wieder aufgebrochen. Ich waere gern noch geblieben, aber dann seh ich ja nix mehr von Australien, wenn ich ueberall so lange bleibe...

Ich hab mich auf den Weg gemacht und bin von der Cobbold Gorge nach Forsayth, dann nach Einsaleigh und dann zur The Lynd Junction gefahren - 187 km gravel road. Oh mein Gott, aber Abends konnte ich dann feststellen, wie ko man sein kann. :-)

Dann hab ich mit Inge und Willi telefoniert und danch hab ich mir was zu Essen bestellt. An The Lynd Junction treffen sich zwei Strassen mitten im Nirgendwo und 2 Kilometer weiter ist ein Road House - das jeder nur The Lynd nennt. Dort gab es also Abendessen fuer mich und dabei hab ich wieder nette Leute kennengelernt. Die beiden arbeiten "in a mine 20 k down the road" (in einer Mine, 20 km die Strasse runter) und hier im Road house ist das Essen besser. Wir haben bestimmt noch 1.5 Stunden dort gesessen und gequatscht und dann bin ich ins Bett und die beiden sind zurueck gefahren.

After 2 days at the Cobbold Gorge I went on. I went to Forsayth, Einsaleigh and to The Lynd Junction. I want to stay at the Gorge, but I can not do that. If I stay at every nice place more days I don't see Australia. On that day I drove about 187 km gravel road. I was nearly dead in the evening - but only nearly. It was a hard day for me.

The Lynd Junction is a junction where 2 streets meet and 2 km away you'll find the oasis road house. I stay there for the night and had a nice dinner. Until I wait for the dinner, I met 2 guys. Both were working at a mine 20k down the road and they told me, that the food is here (at the Lynd) much better than at the mine.
We had a nice talk and after 2 beers (me)/ 3 beers (they) I go to bed and they drove back.

Das letze Mal hab ich mich von Goergetown ausgemeldet und dann bin ich Richtung Forsayth aufgebrochen. Dort war aber nicht wirklich was los und so hab ich weitere 40 Kilometer gravel road auf mich genommen und bin zur Cobbold Gorge gefahen. Das war die beste Entscheidung des Tages!!!

Dort ist es wunderschoen und am naechsten Tag hab ich an der Half Day Tour teilgenommen. Da sind wir zum Top der Gorge gegangnen und konnten runterschauen (und Krokodile aus der Luft sehen :-)). Dann gab es eine Bootsfahrt auf der Gorge - auch an den Krokodilen vorbei. Aber die haben uns gar nicht beachtet. Dann gab es noch Mittagessen und danach ging es wieder zurueck zur Unterkunft/Campground. Ach ja, die Besichtigung des einen Grabs hab ich noch nicht erwaehnt - aber ich hab vergessen, wer dort liegt. Aussderdem sahen wir viel Voegel und verschiedene Baeume.

Die beiden Abende hab ich an der Bar verbracht (und nein, ich war nicht betrunken - das ist hier viel zu teuer). Dort hab ich mich nett mit verschiedenen Einheimischen unterhalten. Die waren z. T. dort um zu arbeiten, anderen waren auch am Reisen. Nette Leute dort. 1 Bier (Victorian Bitter = VB kostet 4.50 $).

From Goergetown I drove to Forsayth, but there is nothing to do. So I went on to the Cobbold Gorge - 40 more km on a gravel road. But it was it worth. It is so fantastic there and the nature is beautiful.

On the next day I did the Half Day Tour. We had a walk to the top of the Gorge, a boat trip in the Gorge and a lunch. We saw some crocodiles and a lot of birds.

On the evenings I went to the bar. I was not drunken because the beer here is to expensive (1 VB for 4.50 $). But I met a lot of nice people there. Some were working there and some were just travelling...

Ich hab mir ja vor einigen Tagen ein Telstra CDMA Handy gekauft, damit ich auch in abgelegenen Gebieten erreichbar bin bzw. Hilfe holen kann. Jetzt war ich im Internet und wollte einstellen, dass ich die Rechnungen fuer das Handy per eMail bekomme. Das ganze funktionierte nicht. Immer hat das System meinen Namen angemeckert. Anfangs hab ich noch an einen Tippfehler geglaubt, aber dem war nicht so. Mein Handy war nicht freigeschaltet fuer diese Registration. Das hat die Frau im Telstraladen in Atherton vergessen. Nach einem Anruf bei der Hotline wurde es freigeschaltet. Allerdings dauert das noch ungefaehr 24 Stunden bis ich mich anmelden kann. Das bedeutet fuer mich, dass ich mir morgen nochmal Internet suchen kann. Bin mal gespannt, ob ich das dann finde...

Ach ja, ich hab die Zeit hier im Blog mal umgestellt auf die Australienzeit. Wundert euch also nicht, wenn da jetzt komische Zeiten stehen.

A few days ago I bought a CDMA mobile phone from Telestra. Now I want to have the bill via email. I try to register me on the Telstra webpage - but it didn't work. The page always told me my name was wrong. I call the Telstra help hotline and the guy on the other side of the phone told me, that my account was not register to have the online bills. He register it now, but I have to wait 24 hours to register me. That means for me: I have to find internet tomorrow again and I am not sure that is internet in Forsayth.

I changed the time from this blog to the australian time. So don't wonder...

Ich bin befinde mich zur Zeit in Georgetown. Das liegt ca. 400 Kilometer westlich von Cairns und damit befinde ich mich auch im Outback. Naja, die beiden Tage davor war ich auch schon da. Ist also nix wirklich besonderes mehr... :-)

Gestern und vorgestern war ich im Undara National Park. Vorgestern hab ich einen Tag lang in der Sonne gesessen und mein Buch zu ende gelesen - das war doch so spannend. Danach hab ich mich noch auf dem Gelaende von Undara umgesehen, aber ich hab nicht viel gemacht. Gestern hab ich dan nan einer Fuehrung teilgenommen und mir die Lava Tubes angesehen. Das ist voll interessant. Am Anfang hab ich ja gar nicht verstanden, wie die entstanden sind, aber jetzt weiss ich es. Ist schon beeindruckend, was die Natur so alles hervor bringt...

Danach hab ich mir ein warmes Mittagessen geleistet - eigentlich war es mehr eim Buffett und deswegen auch entsprechend teuer. Aber lecker... Dabei hab ich mich noch mit einem Mann bei uns aus der Gruppe unterhalten. Der ist voll nett und reist mit dem Motorrad durch die Gegend. Abends hab ich am Campfire (Lagerfeuer) teilgenommen und dabei haben wir gesungen. Jetzt kenn ich einige englische Lieder - vor allem Waltzing Matilda - aber der Sinn ist mir bei einigen doch verschlossen geblieben. Naja, ist wahrscheinlich auch nicht so wichtig. Und lustig war es auf jeden Fall.

Heute morgen hab ich in Mt. Surprise erstmal gefruehstueckt (scrambled eggs with bacon) und getrankt. Da es in Mt. Surprise nicht wirklich was zu tun gibt, hab ich mich auf den Weg nach Georgetown gemacht. Hier ist das zwar aehnlich, aber hier gibt es zumindest Internet. :-) So kann ich euch daheim mal wieder informieren, was es neues (oder auch) gibt...

Morgen werde ich in Richtung Forsayth aufbrechen und die Tage danach nach Einasleigh und The Lynd Junction. Danach geht es wie vorher geplant weiter...

At the moment I am in Georgetown. Georgetown is about 400 k west of Cairns. At the moment I am in the Outback, too. Since the last two days I am here.

The last 2 days I stayed at the Undara National Park. At the first day I just have a look around and the I read my book until I finished. Yesterday I have a guided tour to the Lava Tubes in Undara. That was really good and interesting. After that I had a hot lunch with one man of our guided tour group. He is very nice and travel by his own with his motor bike. In the evening we had a campe fire and one of the guide was singing songs. In this way I heard the song Waltzing Matilda for the first time. It was very nice near the fire.

In the morning I left Undara and go to Mt. Surprise to have a good breakfast - srambled eggs with bacon. Then I went on to Georgetown, because I can not do anything in Mt. Surprise expect going to the gem fields.

Tomorrow I will drive to Forsayth and in the following days to Einasleigh and The Lynd Junction. After that I will follow my old plan.

Ich bin heil und munter in Chillagoe angekommen. Die letzten Kilometer waren wieder ein Erlebnis wert, denn da kam mal ganz ploetzlich eine Gravel Road. Eine Gravel Road wuerde man bei uns in Deutschland als Schotterstrasse bezeichnen und bei uns waere das wohl ein Feldweg. Hier hingegen nicht. Hier ist das eine ganz normale Strasse und die ist halt nur nicht geteert. Ich hab auch - nachdem mir solch eine Gravel Road ein paar Mal begegent ist - auch gelernt, dass man am besten mit 40 - 60 kmh drueberfaehrt. Dann fliegen am wenigesten Stein und es wackelt nicht zu sehr. Die Einheimischen haben meistens alle 4WD und die koennen schneller drueber fahren...
